Treatment for drug addiction is complicated and requires professionals to help the process; it not something that you can do and accomplish on your own.  Treatment can occur in a number of different settings, in many different forms and for varying lengths of time.  It requires long-term treatment and monitoring to make sure relapse doesn’t occur.

Drug addiction rehab can include behavioural therapy (such as counselling), medications, or a combination of both types of treatments.  The choice of addiction treatment for a person depends on the addict, their situation, the type of drugs involved, and the severity of the addiction.  All these things vary from addict to addict and treatment cannot be generalised.  All treatments should be specific to the addict, because often there are other health, occupational, legal and family issues that need to be dealt with concurrently to the addiction problem.

Behavioural therapy is not very popular amongst addicts but can be very successful because it can provide a person with that motivation to participate in drug addiction treatment.  It offers addict strategies for coping with their addiction and provides way to help manage their lives better.  It can help improve communication and relationships, making the recovery process a little easier.

Some treatment plans are individual and some are group sessions. The effectiveness of these sessions can vary depending on gender, age-group and situations and may not always be successful.  In some instances it can be very successful providing social reinforcement and promoting a drug-free lifestyle.

Combination therapy, or any therapy for that matter, used in treating drug addiction is not your choice and requires the decision and guidance of therapists.  Making the right choice for the person based on their situation and needs is vital in order to provide them with the most beneficial drug treatment plan possible.  When dealing with drug abuse and drug treatment it is best to work with trained counsellors who have experience in this kind of thing and provide you with the support you need to start your recovery process.
